Job Description:
Our ground engineering and geotechnical client is looking for an Associate Director with a strong technical design and pre-contracts management background in the geotechnical sector.
This challenging and exciting opportunity, based in Yorkshire, requires an individual with demonstrable experience within the geotechnical and ground engineering sectors. The Role
The Ground Engineering team in the North has a strategy to grow significantly over the next three to five years, and thus have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Director to play a key role in realising this strategy. The successful applicant would be recognised within the industry and be expected to have a proven background in successfully securing consultancy works / fees to build and sustain a profitable team, alongside the ability to manage and deliver a wide array of consultancy based works / projects to quality, cost and programme requirements. The successful candidate will offer a demonstrable track record of providing industry leading advice, thus adding real value for their clients. The role will be reporting to the Director of Northern Operations and will be based within the Yorkshire area.
Responsibilities
• You will be responsible for ongoing development and ensuring success with new and existing clients, helping to secure work and tender opportunities
• You will have a proven track record of Design / Costing / Bid Management experience within the ground / geotechnical engineering sector
• You will have a proven track record in the successful procurement, development and award of multi-faceted business / fee earning opportunities, with the ability to nurture profitable relationships with a wide cross section of clients, whilst also providing budgetary and technical advice wherever possible
• You will provide opportunity to increase the number of enquiries, leading to an increase in successful contract awards to meet the overall business turnover target
• You will assist in the submission of all bids and of pre-qualification documents, you will also add valued input with pre-contract negotiations and terms and conditions
• You will lead the expansion of the service offering to a broader client base and engage with selected parts of client organisations to ensure that understanding of their current and future needs is as complete as possible
• You will liaise with clients to identify opportunities for technical support to their business and be fully conversant with the design capabilities, technical innovations, operational processes and procedures within the sector in order to better understand client requirements and opportunities
The Person
• You will be a Chartered Engineer or PhD qualified Engineer with extensive experience within the geotechnical and / or ground engineering sectors
• You will possess a comprehensive understanding of the ground / geotechnical engineering sector as a whole and have a proven success of work winning and developing opportunities within these sectors
• Expertise in networking externally to develop lasting relationships with clients, whilst adding significant value to quality bids and proposals to enhance award success
• Ability to critique project scopes and fee proposals, and to assess additional work and its financial implications in variations from written scopes
• Ability to lead a team in the delivery of projects or sections of work, whilst motivating, developing and counselling all employees
• Able to make a significant contribution to business leadership and development in addition to project delivery responsibilities
• Experience in creating and refining work practices and procedures, knowledge sharing to aid continuous improvement, and undertake staff appraisals
