Job Description:

Due to continued and sustained growth in the UK, the High Pressure Gas Connections / Processing / Waste / Metering team is now looking to recruit an experienced Project Engineer to be responsible for providing technical and engineering support / advice to Clients, and for the assessment, interpretation and design of bespoke metering and control projects in the High Pressure Network and Distribution Gas market, all in accordance with current legislation, regulations and specifications. The position will additionally focus on assisting in the design of the mechanical and process elements of projects.

The Role

  • Interpret Client specifications to develop competitive solutions, meeting all legislative requirements, and to include site surveys and reviews to propose upgrade options if applicable
  • Manage projects from order handover to completion, including project plans, and the liaison with third party suppliers and contractors to successfully implement projects on time and in budget
  • Lead internal and external personnel in the design of high pressure gas metering and control system solutions, additionally take the responsibility for Client engagement to finalise and resolve technical design queries
  • Create design packs for third party approval and appraisal, including data sheets, calculations, specifications and risk registers
  • Develop system designs including all supporting process and sizing calculations for piping, control valves and RV’s etc, whilst also providing relevant input into Design Briefs such as FDS and HAZOP
  • Specify requirements for third party services and products, and manage their integration to the delivery, ensuring quality and compliance is maintained
  • Assist and guide the construction phase of all assigned projects to ensure both internal and external activities meet the Client specification
  • Ensure suitably robust FAT and SAT procedures and processes are produced and adhered to, this being able to demonstrate functionality to Client
  • Liaise with all parties to ensure smooth delivery of projects, produce risk assessments, method statements and commissioning documents to support site activities
  • Ensure commissioning and installation modifications are reflected into as built documentation packs
  • Provide technical support to Clients and operational staff in the ongoing use and maintenance of delivered projects and systems
  • Perform site tasks as necessary, such as  commissioning, SAT, trouble shooting and rectification

The Person

  • BSc Degree in an engineering discipline or an ONC / HNC and relevant gas industry training and experience
  • Experience of gas process and control systems
  • Experience in defining and sizing gas control equipment, including pipe sizes, control valves, relief valves
  • Experience in mechanical design of supporting frame lifting points etc.
  • Strong understanding of pressure systems and the requirements of mechanical design within, such as PSSR, PED, ATEX and DSEAR
  • Strong understanding of all applicable products, systems and services available within this sector, thus able to apply this knowledge in proposing innovative and bespoke solutions to Client specifications
  • A proven track record of design and delivery of gas control systems in the oil and gas / petrochemical industry
  • Understanding of the end to end process for delivering requirements to Clients within the High Pressure Gas market, including responsibly under CDM regulations
  • Experience in providing project support to contracts, and ensuring the company maintains regulatory compliance along with third party accreditations including BS EN ISO 9001: 2008, BS EN ISO 14001:2004 and Achilles UVDB ‘Verify’.
  • Good understanding of QA in the gas industry, with an established network of relevant stakeholders
  • Project Budget and P&L control experience
